Windmill Nursing Pavilion is located in a peaceful residential area in South Holland, IL. When residents look out the windows or take walks, they see houses, families, and a neighborhood instead of busy commercial streets.

Windmill is a one-story building that has been recently remodeled; residents and staff don't have to deal with elevators or stairs. The building opens onto an open air courtyard where residents enjoy reading, relaxing, and socializing. With 50 intermediate and 100 skilled beds, Windmill averages about 140 residents, mainly from Illinois and Indiana

The facility has an ongoing program of upgrades to the building, grounds, and equipment. Harrington is especially proud of Windmill's physical therapy program, and the facility's excellent survey history. As part of her process of continuous improvement, she makes frequent tours of the shared and residential areas.

Most rooms are semi-private with adjoining half-baths. Each room has a television, and residents are encouraged to bring items such as dressers or recliners that will personalize their room and make their stay more comfortable. Residents take their meals at tables for four in the bright and sunny main dining room.

"We are a longer term facility," Harrington says, "so we get know every single family member. They come over for lunch or dinner. They can eat what we're serving or bring something in and join us in the dining room."

Windmill is Medicare and Medicaid certified and accepts private pay or insurance and Medicaid-pending residents. An experienced staff member assists residents and families with public aid applications and processing. The facility is in compliance with federal and state standards.

"The best part of this job for me is the residents," Harrington says. "I love when they say, Ann Marie, you've made my life happier. Thanks for another good day. That's what makes me feel good."
