Company History

Prior to 1960, most people who retired stayed at home, and those needing real nursing care were kept in hospitals. Senior adults had few options, and nursing homes provided minimal care and basic services.

Christian Homes was established in 1962 by a group of men who had $10.66 and the belief that there should be a good, Christian place for the elderly to live and receive care. The Christian Nursing Home opened in Lincoln, Illinois, in 1965. Over the next 30 years, the ministry of Christian Homes grew. Communities and services were expanded to include specialized services like Memory Care for residents with Alzheimer's disease, and rehabilitative therapy programs.

With communities in 15 locations in 4 states, over 2,300 employees, and over 2,200 residents, Christian Homes is the nation's 4th largest not-for-profit provider of healthcare services to the elderly. Christian Homes has over 1600 Medicare and Medicaid certified skilled nursing-care beds, over 150 assisted-living apartments, and over 500 independent living apartments and garden homes to meet the growing needs of senior adults.

Today's seniors are more active and independent than ever. They aren't just looking for a place to live; they're looking for a place to maintain their lifestyle. They want a full-service retirement community with progressive services that will help them stay independent, a home that provides for their spiritual and social needs as well as their physical and health needs.

Christian Homes communities provide a full range of housing options-total independence, some assistance, skilled nursing and memory care-with services to meet the changing needs of senior adults in the 21st century:

• Total facility maintenance
• Cleaning and laundry services
• Chaplains and worship services
• Meals
• Activity programs
• Beauty and barber shop
• Transportation and outings
• Complete therapy programs

Christian Homes exists to honor God by providing a continuum of excellent care and support services, primarily for the aged.

Hospice Care

Caring for a loved one who is facing a terminal illness can be emotionally draining and stressful. We understand that it can be easy to lose focus on the obligations of your own life. Nonetheless, your loved one would not want you to lose sight of what you need to accomplish in life as well. After all, maintaining your well-being is one of the most caring and encouraging things you can do for those who care about you.

Entrusting the care of your loved one to others can be a difficult decision, and no one understands the difficulty of what you are going through more than the Hospice team professionals. Consisting of Hospice volunteers, a personal physician, clergy, nurses and aides, the kind hearts and open ears of this team put each resident’s physical and emotional well-being first. That’s our sole purpose.

Working hand-in-hand with families to learn all we can about the people we care for is important to us. We listen, pay attention to details and connect on a personal level. Our staff regularly trains family members on certain tasks so that they can continue to be a vital part of their loved one’s life and care.

A closely monitored environment paired with the support of an admirable group of caring professionals ensures our patients receive all the medical attention and care they need, including nursing care, medical equipment and supplies, social services, pharmacy services, and spiritual and bereavement counseling.
